News from Denmark

Postby Donjohntos1 » Mon Jan 25, 2010 12:01 am

We in Danish Smoker Association and The Yellow Nail (Another association in Denmark) have had several aticles in different papers telling that the results on the effects of passive smoking given by the goverment has been misleading and incorrect.
Even the investigation on the numbers of smokers in Denmark have been incorrect due to the fact that the surveys have been among the highest educated only and not as a broad survey counting the unskilled workers e.t.c.
Yet again more lies from the "elite" part.

Wrote an article yesterday Feb 13 2010 and publishied it on my own website, it´s about the growing resistance against the smoking ban.
I´ve haven´t translated in into english yet but the basic in the article is, that there is resistance and that we are here and fighting.
I was at a gasstation buying tobbaco and the one at the counter said to me "It´s becoming too much with all that control, you cant´ even fart anymore", by the way, it turned out that he is a smoker as he told me without me asking.
I asked him if he knew anything about our organisation, he replied "No", told him to check out our website and that it only cost 100 DKK a year to be a member. He then said "That´s not much".
Hopefully he will spread the word about our association so that we can grow bigger.
He sounded very angry and ready to fight.
I hear more and more comments against the smokingban. :D
I can translate it into english and post it here if you like.

Yes the same here in aussie , the facts the goverments feed us are incorrect and designed to mislead the public, like they say here only a small number smoke yet i see more smokers around than non smokers, and if smoking was so bad the goverment would ban it altogether, but no they need the tax income to keep them afloat, so they put out BS facts and lie and make a noise about how bad it is , while they collect the huge taxes from smokes, here we have just had a 25% tax hike on tobacco and the goverment has claimed it will bring them a $5 billion extra tax income, whcih makes the prime minister and the goverments of australia hypocrites.
example i used to pay
$29 for my pouch of pipe tobacco , now that is $34

Here in Denmark they also raised the prices on tobacco. A packet of 20 PRINCE now costs 43 danish crowns and a packet of 10 costs 21 DKK.
A bucket of Superblend tobacco with 150 grams rose from 140 DKK to 165 DKK but still I roll my own cigarettes.
The filters is about 25 DKK for a packet of 100. In Netto (a supermarket chain here) 500 filters costs 35 DKK so its cheaper (for now) to roll your own.
And some other brands varies from 24 DKK to 27 DKK for a 20 PCKT. Like L&M, LB.
But we are fighting them.
A photographer student is currently making a photoserie on smoking and smokers, as a graduation project.
As he says " The media is giving a false impression of smokers", I agree with him.
He contacted our chairman in DARY and told him about it and the chairman said ok let´s give it a try.
Maybe it will change the view on us smokers. We will see if it does.

PS. I wrote the article I mentioned under impressions.
