No problems in Tassie then !

A recent report from the good folk at Deakin University ( department of we can get away with anything) says that in Tasmania their was no financial impact on bars in that state of the smoker bans. These clowns took some figures from the bureauu of statistics, manipulated them to suit their needs, and published their results. Now, I am not known for anger, but I was there, I spoke to many pub owners, and watched their sad stories on TV news, with a 25-30% reduction in sales. It isn't until you get to the last line of this propaganda that the truth is exposed "The smokefree policy protects hospitality workers and patrons from exposure to secondhand smoke, and has no adverse effect on sales turnover" , well yes, it does protect workers, most are now at centrelink, it protects them from earning an income !! This is no more than political propaganda churned out by tobacco control lobbyists. My thanks goes to Christopher Snowdon, Author of "Velvet Glove, Iron Fist" for bringing this crock to our attention.

How much does it cost to instigate these "surveys" & "Reports" ??

And what tax dollars are being used to fund these white coats. ??

I think it works this way Deb. University department needs grant or other funds from government, so they produce a report/study that shows whatever the government wants to hear, and that is sent off with their application. It doesn't matter that the report isn't accurate or is full of lies, because nobody is going to question it. Uni' dep't get their grant, and go do another bullshit report/study on the sex life of the antarctic honey bee.

It is propaganda that suits the current ideological thinking of governments, and nothing really to do with knowledge. See the link from Monash Uni' on the corrupt practices of some of these people. I think most university thinking is preocupied with making money from Indian and Chinese pseudo immigrants, paying full fees to "study" here.

Makes me wish I had the momey to do a study on human beings transformed into alien beings known as politicians.

We know their goal is financial, but the mindset of the journey is always evasive.

Yes of course they make up figures that say the goverment was right, in america and other places the amount of bars etc that have closed down due tio anti smoking laws are huge, and even in tassie there are bars etc going down the drain due to these laws , the option to smoke or not in a club or bar should be up to the owners not the goverment, But this new huge tax hike will push a lot of smokers out, mainly low income earners and pensioners, and the right to smoke will be arich mans game, and what is next tax drinking out for the ordinary person, australia is going down the drain with these laws and taxes, because anti smoking lobbys and religios groups want it all their way
